Sessène: the Mbour Petite Côte DyTAEL trains farmers in agroecology and organic fertilisers

On Thursday 24 September 2026, the Mbour Petite Côte DyTAEL (Local Dynamics for the Agroecological Transition) held an information and awareness workshop at Sessène town hall on the benefits of agroecology and the use of organic fertilisers.

The workshop was aimed first at farmers: fifty were expected, twenty-five from the Sessène district and twenty-five from Fissel. They were joined by state technical services (ANCAR, SDDR, Water and Forests, CPDT), local elected officials, and members of the DyTAEL’s technical committee and executive secretariat.

Why organic fertilisers

Each rainy season, the Senegalese state subsidises large quantities of organic fertilisers and soil amendments to reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers. The DyTAELs take part in their distribution. Farmers still need to know how to use them.

This work is part of the Senegal 2050 National Transformation Agenda, which emphasises sustainable food systems and territorial development. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) is preparing, with the DyTAES, a national strategy to promote agroecology.

The programme

After welcome remarks by the mayor of Sessène and introductions by the DyTAEL executive secretariat and a representative of the farmers’ cooperatives, the technical committee presented the benefits of agroecology, then a technical sheet on the use of organic fertilisers. Each presentation was followed by a discussion with participants.
